Navigating the Future Together

The Manukau Harbour website is a collective platform built by and for the communities of the Manukau Harbour catchment, supported by the Manukau Harbour Forum. Our purpose is to raise awareness, champion action, and connect people who care deeply about the health and future of the harbour.

As one of Aotearoa’s largest and most ecologically and culturally significant harbours, Manukau is home to vibrant communities, treasured ecosystems, and generations of knowledge and connection. This tool exists to amplify local voices, share what’s happening across the rohe, and support meaningful kaitiakitanga by whānau, hapū, iwi, residents, researchers, and partners alike.

Our Goals

We work to:

  • Elevate and coordinate efforts to restore the health of the Manukau Harbour

  • Support community-led restoration, education, and advocacy

  • Provide a central hub for information sharing, events, and updates

  • Promote collaboration across mana whenua, community groups, government, research and industry

  • Ensure community voices help shape the future of the harbour

How We Do This

  • Host Events – including our bi-annual Manukau Harbour Symposium, beach clean-ups, planting days, and workshops

  • Share Knowledge – through our website, community stories, newsletters, and accessible resources

  • Connect People – by facilitating partnerships and offering updates from across the catchment

  • Uphold Kaitiakitanga – by working with mana whenua and recognising Te Ao Māori as central to the care of the harbour

This Website

This website is a living resource — a space for community to stay informed, find upcoming events, learn about local projects, and get involved. Whether you’re here to discover what’s happening near your awa, or to celebrate the collective mahi of your neighbours and whānau, this is your harbour hub.
